Argo 6×6 or 8×8? How to Make the Choice
When it comes to choosing an Argo XTV, one of the most important decisions you’ll need to make is whether to go with a 6×6 or an 8×8 model. While both models offer impressive off-road capabilities, they do have differences that may make one a better fit for your needs than the other. In this article, we’ll explore the differences between the Argo 6×6 XTV and the Argo 8×8 XTV, and provide some guidance to help you make an informed decision.
Payload Capacity
An important factor to consider when choosing between an Argo 6×6 XTV and an Argo 8×8 XTV is payload capacity. Payload capacity refers to the amount of weight that an XTV can carry, including passengers, cargo, and equipment.
It’s critical to remember that an Argo can carry more weight on land than it can in water. But if we make a simple comparison of on-land payload capacities, the current Argo Frontier 6×6 models have a maximum payload capacity of 570 pounds, the Frontier series 8x8s can carry up to 840 pounds, and the larger Aurora and Conquest 8×8 models can carry well over 1,000 pounds.
It’s important to note that adding accessories, such as winches or cargo racks, can impact the payload capacity of both models. Before choosing an XTV, be sure to consider the weight of any accessories you plan to add, as well as the weight of the passengers and cargo you’ll be transporting.
Off-Road Capabilities
Argo XTVs are designed to tackle a wide range of off-road terrain, including mud, snow, water, and steep hills. Both the 6×6 and 8×8 models are outstanding extreme terrain vehicles, but in some conditions the number of tires you’re rolling on makes a difference.
The compact size of the Argo 6×6 makes it highly maneuverable, so it does well at navigating through tight spaces and narrow trails. The 6×6 may be for you if you will be using your XTV for recreational activities like hunting, fishing, or exploring, or for light-duty work in crowded areas.
On the other hand, the eight-wheel-drive Argo 8×8 XTV is designed to provide even greater off-road capabilities. Because of its larger size and wider stance, it is more stable on steep hills and in deep water. Having extra tires on the ground also reduces ground pressure, allowing the 8×8 to travel more easily over very soft surfaces such as snow, sand, or marshy ground.
Cost
The bottom-line factor to consider when choosing between an Argo 6×6 XTV and an Argo 8×8 XTV is your budget. The 8×8 model is generally more expensive than the 6×6 model, due to its increased size, power, and features.
If budget is a concern, the 6×6 model may be a good choice, as it offers many of the same features and capabilities as the 8×8 model, but at a lower cost. However, the 8×8 model may well be worth the additional investment if you if you need more power and carrying capacity. Ultimately, the choice between these two XTV classes will depend on your specific needs and preferences.
