The 2019 Argo Bigfoot 800 MX8
Argo’s XTVs are popular with people who work and play in mud, but there hasn’t been a mud-specific XTV until now. The Bigfoot 800 MX8 is based on the Avenger, but it comes with new tires designed for maximum mud traction and comes with features that make mud bogging easy and fun.
A Whole New Take On Muddin’
The Bigfoot is designed first and foremost for mud, but that doesn’t mean it looks or acts like anything else you’ll likely see at your local mud hole.
The biggest change in this new model is the tires. In place of the paddle-like rubber on other XTVs, Argo fitted a new design with thick lugs on the tread and sidewalls that bite into the earth. This sacrifices the XTV’s amphibious abilities, but in return, it delivers performance that rivals any muddin’ vehicle.
Why isn’t it taller? Like other Argos, the weight of this vehicle is spread over such a large contact patch that it doesn’t need a long travel suspension. The Bigfoot’s ground pressure is just 1.7 psi, which is about 1/5 the pressure of a human foot and far below that of an ATV or off-road truck. Beadlock rims come standard, letting you run extremely low pressures for even better floatation. That means you can drive over soft mud while other vehicles have to grind their way through it. There’s still 9.5 inches of ground clearance, so you won’t get highsided.
The axles, transmission, and engine are mounted in the bottom of the frame, giving the Bigfoot a low center of gravity. Climbs that would flip other mudding vehicles are no problem. There’s also nothing to hang up on hidden rocks or tree roots since the skid plate covers the entire underside of the vehicle. That stability also eliminates the need for a ROPS, giving you an open view of your surroundings and keeping the layout of the Bigfoot compact. Despite being about the size of a two-seater UTV, it has space for up to 6 people. Need more space? The rear seats can be folded up, giving you a large, deep cargo area for your gear.

Instead of a repurposed motorcycle engine, the Bigfoot uses an industrial liquid-cooled, fuel injected V-Twin, just like their commercial Avenger. This 30 HP engine drives an Admiral ST transmission. It uses brake-based steering like a skid-steer loader, braking the inside wheels to turn. This gives the controls similar effort to a power assist rack on an ATV but offers a far shorter turning circle. Argo knows the owners of the MX8 will be pushing this vehicle to its limit, so a heavy-duty drive belt comes standard.
All 8 wheels are driven all the time, but low ground pressure prevents scrubbing so it’s easy to maneuver on pavement. Top speed is 20 mph, and a low range gear helps with steep climbs.
Space For Your Friends and Your Stuff
The Bigfoot MX8 can carry up to 1,045 lbs. and has space for up to 6 people. It can also tow up to 1,800 lbs.
Equipment
To improve off-road capabilities, the MX8 comes with a 3,500 lb. Warn winch that can be mounted on the front or rear to pull you out or help someone who got stuck on the trail, while the brushguard protects the front end. For fun, this XTV comes with a Jensen stereo that has Bluetooth compatibility so you can stream music from your smartphone while you blast down fields and dirt roads.
