Diesel Power with Gas-Like Performance
In place of the Aegis found in other models in this XTV line, the XTd uses a Kohler KDW1003. This one liter overhead cam three cylinder diesel engine uses an indirect injection system that doesn’t produce the loud rattle of direct injectors yet is able to deliver similar performance. By using a belt driven camshaft and reducing internal complexity, further reducing noise to a point that it’s hard to distinguish from its gas-powered counterpart. This motor produces 24 hp and 37 lb-ft. of torque and comes equipped with a 65 amp alternator to power accessories. Like all XTVs, Argo designed the XTd to work in temperatures ranging from -40 to 104 F (-40 to 40 C,) making it usable in deserts, tundras and everywhere in between, while the fuel tank carries enough diesel to keep the motor for up to 8 hours.
This engine uses the Admiral transmission which has a variable braking system for steering so it turns smoothly like a standard UTV. While the engine’s peak horsepower may be lower than the Aegis, it can still reach the same top speed of 17 mph (27 km/h) as the gas-powered XTi. A heavy-duty drive belt and auto chain lubrication system are included for reduced maintenance.
Equipped to Work in the Great Outdoors
This model has a total payload is 905 lbs. (411 kg) with space for two people, and it comes well equipped straight from the factory.
The seating area is surrounded by a two person ROPS with metal mesh covering the rear, a clear view roof for weather protection without hampering visibility, and a windshield with a wiper. For operator comfort, the handlebar and gauges are adjustable, while the grips are heated. A pair of 12-volt outlets can be used for onboard equipment and smartphone charging, while drinks can be kept handy using the two cup holders.
Behind the seats, there’s a power dump box that can hold up to 1,000 lbs. (450 kg.) The 4,500 lb. (2,041 kg) Warn winch is normally mounted to the front, but this model comes with a rear receiver kit and quick release system that lets you mount the winch to the back as needed. Want to use this vehicle in snowy climates? Argo offers an 81 inch (two meter) wide steel snow blade that can be attached to the front end and is lifted and lowered using the winch.
Off Road Abilities Beyond UTVs
Unlike most Argos, the Explorer isn’t amphibious, but it still retains the company’s trademark low center of gravity and low ground pressure. This lets it float over the softest ground and climb up steep inclines that would stop the best UTV. Tracks can be added that mount over the tires for even lower ground pressure. Argo offers these in a variety of patterns and materials for a wide range of surfaces from pavement to ice letting it get around in the most difficult conditions.
A front brush guard and full-length skid plate are included to protect the vehicle from bumps and scrapes. Need to haul more equipment? Argo makes two sizes of trailers that can go anywhere this XTV goes, adding up to 1,400 lbs. (635 kg) of cargo capacity.

This XTV is available in Construction Yellow for high visibility and green for blending in when you’re operating in the woods.
